The ‘New Normal’ – Here is what you Absolutely Need for Success

“Normal no longer exists, all we have is the present, and everything that comes with it.” – Joel Collymore

The coronavirus 2019 (covid19) pandemic has brought the world to its knees. Businesses, Schools, Recreation, Travel have all been significantly impacted. Stock markets and entire economies have crashed because of a halt in global trade, and governments have taken significant measures to reduce the spread of the virus by closing their borders, forced closure of non-essential businesses, implemented social distancing measures, curfews, and mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE) when persons are in public.

As a result of these measures, many are now unemployed, some businesses would never reopen, schools have been closed and classes moved online, and remote working has become the new normal for many who are still employed.

Overnight we have seen a significant global shift in the need for, and increased utilization of technology. Some businesses have adapted to the current economic climate and moved parts, if not all, of their operations online. Schools (from Primary to University) have begun using CRM solutions and communication and collaborative tools to conduct classes. More eCommerce businesses are launching, and innovation is striving.

WHAT YOU NEED FOR THE “NEW NORMAL”

1. TRAINING AND MINDSET

There is no going back to what was considered “normal.” Individuals and businesses must either adapt or get left behind, as we have entered a “new normal.” One with new governance structures, ways of doing business, educating, combined with a greater reliance on technology. Therefore, organisations with remote workers must provide them with the required education and training to facilitate a smoother transition to the new normal.

2. BETTER INTERNET

To facilitate the high utilization of internet services and significant demand for increased bandwidth, internet service providers (ISPs) would have to improve their technologies to meet the demand. This is where fifth-generation communications technology (5G) comes into play. Many ISPs have started implementing the infrastructure to support 5G services. In many countries, some have already rolled out 5G services.

5G connects many more devices to the internet, minimizes delays, and delivers ultrafast speeds. It is twenty times faster than 4G from a peak speed perspective. The development of emerging technologies such as the internet of things (IoT), augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and autonomous vehicles would accelerate significantly and greatly benefit from 5G.

3. THE RIGHT TOOLS

This was very informative and eye opening, we really need to evolve our thinking. Great read!
I am a bit skeptical about 5g though, I guess it is because there are a lot of theories out there about it and, I don’t know enough to be comfortable with it.
